BBBM – Its Bloody Ironic

Technically, I have not been stalking Big Booty, Big Money owner and designer, Evelyn Edelman.

OK, I have spent alot of time in her store and I do have every design she has ever released. So it was only fitting that on yet another visit to the store, Evelyn was there and agreed to answer some of my inane questions.

Evelyn started BBBM around March this year. She says she likes to “juxtapose the ugly with the lovely” in her designs. I would argue that her designs are more lovely than ugly.

Take a look at the recently released Bloodyseeker dress (which by the way also comes in the non-bloody version). As you are led away (admittedly in handcuffs), with the evidence of your crime all over your dress, at least you can be assured that you do so looking absolutely fabulous!

What I love about BBBM is that the designs are imaginative, edgy and not your run of the mill. If you are into following babydoll trends then I can safely say that these outfits are probably not for you. If you are about smart, creative and unusual designs then head to BBBM.

According to Evelyn “Its all about irony”. Seriously. More importantly, her designs are very affordable ranging from L$50 to L$150 for an outfit.

Mel Tells . . .

Mel Fitzcarraldo is a welcome addition to the MODA team. Not only does he have a well developed . . . er . . . sense of humor, but he also is a fine modeling student.

Well, since Licentious begg…er, I mean plead…er I mean asked if I would do some reviews here, here is my premier post for the MODA fashion blog! (Actually it’s an honor to be included among such talented people in the SL fashion industry!) Earlier I posted here about my excursion today to Aitui when I got the notice they were having a huge sale on older tattoos that are going to be replaced next month with their new line. So, ok, yes I did look around at their other offerings, I mean, why not while you’re there? And yes, I did manage to pick up a few other things besides tattoos while I was there. For instance, take a look at these thermal shirts. It’s getting a bit nippy outside when I leave for work in the morning, even here in the South where I live. Shirts like these would be great to keep me warm, comfortable and looking good, too bad there’s a dress code.

The Service Thermal (black) sports a unique, futuristic symbol on the chest.

The Somewhere Thermal (rust) has what looks to almost be a bloodstain across the abdomen and an interlocking circle design on the right pectoral.

The Grey Striped Thermal has dusky, faded grey stripes, looking like you’re ready to board a tramp steamer or head off on a fishing trauler.

All of the thermals have the corregated thick cloth texture that just makes you feel warm. The niftiest feature is the sleeve extension that looks like you’ve been pulling down your sleeves to open the car door on those cold mornings.

The thermals are jacket-layer only and the sleeve extensions are on the glove layer.
Make sure to get by Aitui soon before the discontinued tattoos are gone for good, and have a look around while you’re there.

Gimme a head with hair….

…Gimme long beautiful hair. Shining,
gleaming, steaming, flaxen, waxen….

….I want it long, straight,

curly, fuzzy, snaggy, shaggy,

ratty, matty, oily, greasy,

fleecy, shining, gleaming, steaming,

flaxen, waxen, knotted, polka-dotted;

Twisted, beaded, braided Powdered,

flowered, and confettied.

Bangled, tangled, spangled

and spaghettied! ….
(Lyrics from “Hair”)

______________

Our avatars are like dolls and we love to dress them and wear fabulous hairstyles. Luckily, unlike my dolls I don’t ruin SL hair to the point it looks like I mopped the floor with it. We are always in search of hair for the casual look, punk style, neko, or the updo for the lovely evening gown. But which hair is our favorite, the hair we can’t part with even if it is from last year. The one hair you can’t let go of is the style that speaks of you; screams YOU. I love hair that is sassy, ethnic, has a soft flow and fits my own personality. I remember the names of my favorites but for the life of me can’t remember the others and will spend hours trying them on til I find the one I need. Only to pull out that old reliable that is like wash ‘n wear and can go anywhere. I want to share with you some of my favorites and why.

Top row:
Left: Dark Seduction from Ellana. You can feel the breeze thru this hair when walking. Imagine jogging and that full ponytail sways with you. That is what Dark Seduction does. It looks great in those jogging outfits or clubwear.
Right: Nash’s Natty Dreads from Destroy, Inc. I am happy to be nappy and love this look. Thank yu Jill Scott, Angie Stone, and Ericka Badu this hair shouts “I am Woman –Phenomenal. Destroy, Inc. has dreads for men and women. If you have a bit of Rasta in you, you will like this place.

Second row:
Left:
BooPerFunk BigHuge Dreads from BooPerfunk. BooPerFunk is funk at its best featuring Afro/Caribbean hairstyles and more. Get your funk on and strut your stuff.
Right: Afro from Mau & Mej. Mau & Mej was suggested to me by a friend and I am happy I went. This afro frames the face beautifully and has a nice flex. I plan to go back to get some of the stunning asian styles.

Bottom row
Left: Shakira from BishWear. What can I say about Shakira other than its big hair, rock style and sexy. Shakira especially looks hawt in clubwear or that outfit you want to be sophisticated but the hair speaks a little bit of the wild side.

Right: Rona Dread Ponytail from Skybox. This style comes with color change which makes it fun to wear and looks great with most any style clothing. I wear it when I want to have style with attitude and personality.

Well, there it is… My hair affair! Would love to here from others about great hair finds.

Looking Good in SL For Less

I remember being told by Jujudoll Dancer, CEO of MODA Fashions SL, on my first day of training at MODA modeling school, that being well dressed in SL should not cost a fortune. I have to say that at the time, I was a little skeptical. However, over the months, I am learning that she was of course correct – as always.

Join An Update Group
One of the best ways to look good on the cheap in SL is to join the update group of your favorite designer. Once in a group, you will usually be the first to know of upcoming sales, fashion shows, freebies, lucky draws or in the case of Sh*t Happens, designs in production. Ana Boogiewoogie, owner of Sh*t Happens, regularly has special offers for the update group and she actively involves her update group in her design process.

Hunt For Treasure
Fellow MODA model, Payton Heron, turned up at a recent modeling session in some amazing stilettos. When I asked her where they were from, she kindly informed me that she had obtained them from Mary Jane Shoes’ Halloween Treasure Hunt. The hunt has 13 little pumpkins scattered around the main store, each pumpkin contains a pair of high quality shoes. One pumpkin has bowling shoes for guys. So for about 1 hour worth of work, you too can have 13 pairs of shoes absolutely free. Here is a sample of my Mary Jane Shoes treasure. I have to warn you, the pumpkins are not easy to find, but well worth the search.

Honestly, treasure hunts are a great way to get free stuff. I agree, you cannot vouch for the quality of what you get and you have to put some effort into the search and you cannot guarantee what’s in the treasure. But it FREE! Also these hunts are a good way to get to know a designer and their store -since you’ll be spending alot of time roaming the store.

Hey Girlfriend!
I am sure you are asking, how do I find out about these hunts? Join a group…..duh! My current group for treasure hunts etc., is Hey Girlfriend. The group is open to anyone. More importantly, the members are more than happy to share whatever information they can about a hunt. So do not delay…..there are great treasures out there waiting for you.

Wild about Bare Rose!

Thanks to FashCon, I received a notice last night about new designs at Bare Rose. Having recently discovered, and fallen in love with, Bare Rose, I ran straight over. I think everyone else in FashCon did to because the sim was hopping!

I snapped up 2 of the new releases, and found a slightly older one I’d been mulling over and finally decided to nab. Glad I did!!

This first one is Scottish Fold, a fun mix of Scottish and Japanese. It comes with slouchy, Japanese schoolgirl style socks but I decided to wear boots fo rthis one. I am IN LOVE with this outfit. The jacket has many prim parts, including shoulders, sleeves, cuffs, and a cute necktie which has variations for all of its colors. The skirt has two options, the one I’m wearing, and a mini-skirt. Also worn with this, “Old Boots” from Shiny Things, and “Lola” hair from =RaC=

This next one is called “Hot Nora”. Adorable jean shorts and a t-shirt with shoved-up sleeves. the sleeves, waistband and legbands are all prim attachments. I wore my pink Chuck Taylors from Darkstar, and white sunglasses from Artilleri. Hair is by Slink.

This last outfit I forsee myself wearing very often. The sweater is called KnitKnit, and comes, like all of Bare Rose’s outfits, with a variety of colors. I’m wearing the Pink sweater here, of course, and my favorite Tuli jeans and pink Chucks, and “Pompadour” from Zero Style. This sweater has 2 undershirt options, a longer one and a shorter one, and also comes with the cute flexi scarf. The set also comes with a system skirt. I cannot wait to see what Bare Rose comes out with next!! Thanks again, TheDiva Rockin’ for the use of your photosphere :P
