Introducing Fann Hyun…MODA Supermodel

As promised, we are bringing you the outfits worn by another of the MODA supermodels during the Miss SL Tropics pageant that took place last weekend. Fann Hyun is an experienced SL model who openly admits that she comes to in-world “to escape from work stress and to realize my childhood dreams of working as a model”. In RL, she is a high-powered banker. Fann has a stunning avi and she loves SL because she “can model, learn, shop, and meet people from all over the globe”. She sounds like my kind of girl.

Although Fann was a late entrant into the competition, that did not stop her from putting together some of the most elegant and beautifully accessorized outfits of the pageant. Look at the outfit she chose for the swimwear category, it’s an asymmetrically cut swimsuit called Sea Leopard Split in Green from DellyciousWear. Fann accessorized this sexy swimsuit with Silvergold Trefoil leather Choker and Earrings by the same designer.

When it came to casualwear, Fann went for the very pretty Summer Garden Dress with matching shoes from ZVZ Ultra Violet Fashions. This dress is overflowing with spring flowers and features a beautifully sheer flouncy prim overskirt and a dramatic V-shaped bodice. Fann accessorized this sweet flower outfit with Chunky Silver Bangles from Second Mirage, and Amber Drop Chain dangle earrings and Amber Very Long Triple Drop chain from Shiny Things.

It was in the formal category that Fann’s skill for accessorizing really shone through. Starting with the bejewelled Mystic – Skylark with Winter Amethyst Gems gown by Sherona Degroot of *DG* Innovations (see below), Fann added two simple items to complete the outfit; the Queen Heidi Armband by the very talented Alienbear Gupta of Alienbear Designs and earrings from the Trilogy set by JoJo Designs Jewelery. These accessories completed the stunning sky blue evening gown with its lace trim and ethereally flowing silk flyaways – to produce a truly a fabulous modern look.I really admire those who know what to add to complete an outfit. If you are one of those people let us know and what the trick is in your opinion. Our Fann definitely knows how to make and complete an outfit….wouldn’t you agree?

Winning Isn’t Everything

OK….maybe that’s not always true…but I caught your attention. So, I attended the 2007 Miss SL Tropics pageant on Sunday, to support my fellow MODA models selected to take part in the competition. The pageant setting was spectacular…with spectators lying on colorful beach towels, sunbathing in front of a huge water sculpture suspended over the sea. The stage was setup so that the competitors walked up from the seabed, literally walking on water and onto a platform containing a very large blue oyster shell. Mermaids and mermen judges, unfortunately, had to contend with crashing around in the waves that lashed against the sculpture. It’s a wonder they got any judging done!

The regal Summer Deadlight – DJ and neko – took home the coveted prize…..Congratulations Summer! I have to say that ALL the ladies in the competition were beautiful and winners in my eyes. You could tell that a lot of work had gone into preparing for the event – not least picking the right outfits and poses. What was especially nice was learning about the competitors RL accomplishments. I’m in awe of all these amazing ladies.

Our very own role model (pun intended!), Makeda Cole took part in this stunning pa
geant. Throughout the competition, Makeda, was poised and elegant as she modeled outfits specifically created for the pageant.

For the Swimsuit category, Makeda wore this gorgeous Tropicana swimsuit (shown above) from DellyciousWear. With its turquoise print with orange hibiscus flowers, matching Tropicana sarong, and a hibiscus flower for the hair, Tropicana leather and bead anklet, necklace and armlet as accessories, this ensemble was a tropical delight. It was also one of the few outfits that did not to clash with the very blue oyster shell.

Makeda’s choice for the Chic Casual Category was a custom dress by Grace Winnfield Designs. There were gasps of “exquisite”, “beautiful” and “amazing” when Makeda emerged from the sea in this dress, a splash of vibrant tropical colors. Since Grace has a great posting and picture of the Printed Bandeau Dress on her blog, I saw no need to repeat it here. Click on the link and you will find more details about dress there.

For the final category of the competition – the Formal Gown – Makeda chose this breathtaking Sparkle Dust Gown by Sherona de Groot of Innovations (shown below) I am sure you will agree that Makeda is definitely a winner when it comes to style.

Over the next few days, we will try to bring you a few more of the outfits worn by the other MODA models in the competition.

Have Fun…..Sh*t Happens!

MODA’s monthly fashion showcase was held yesterday at Rodeo Drive. If you missed the show, you missed a great event. Rodeo Drive was crowded out and at one point it was standing room only. As a recent graduate of the MODA modeling school, I was fortunate enough to be asked to participate in the showcase. One of the outfits I really enjoyed modeling at the showcase was designed by Ana Boogiewoogie of Sh*t Happens.

The outfit, called Punky Harajuku, is from the designer’s Japanese streetwear inspired mini-line and comes filled with tons of accessories, such as fuzzy leggings, belts, bangles and three different styles of the skirt. I also love the hair which Ana chose for the outfit. This sexy, funky hairstyle is called Syd and is by Gaia Goodnight of Darkstar Designs. You can get this outfit and the hair from Sh*t Happens and Darkstar Design main stores at Bishops Point.

Ana is currently running a competition to find the Face of Sh*t Happens. She will be choosing a new “face” every month and the lucky winner gets to keep all the designs they model. Who would not want to own one of Ana’s fun and unique creations? The competition is only open to members of the Sh*t Happens Update group, which by the way is really worth joining, even if you are not interested in the competition. Earlier this week, Ana held a two-hour “Buy one, get one free” group event at the main store recently. During the event you could pick any outfit of equal or lesser value to the one you bought and Ana was there the whole time – “on call” so to speak and to make sure we all got our free items immediately. That in my humble opinion is great customer service.

MODA produces the fashion showcase every month. Details of all our upcoming events are posted here. So if you do not want to be left out of the SL fashion scene, visit us here on a regular basis.

Modesüchtig

Modesüchtig bills itself as: Das erste deutsche Blog über Mode, Haare und Skins in Second Life (The first German blog about fashion hair and skins in Second Life).

Bravo! (or should I say Viel Glück?)

SL is international. The number of non-American residents keeps rising. This blogger, for one, is happy to practice his German, French, Italian etc. even before he reaches for his Babelfish.

How do you say w00t in German?

Plus Sized in SL

The beauty of SL is that not everyone wants to look like Barbie or Brad Pitt etc. There is room for and acceptance of individual style. In her blog, Whole Lotta Rosie, Rosie Barthelmess talks about being a plus sized woman in both RL and SL. Her descriptions about making prim clothing fit are priceless!

Sure, SL is all about fantasy and play, but I think Rosie sums up the real value when she says:

My love for [my avatar] Rosie is helping me learn how to love the RL me.

Bless you, Rosie!

Shopping for Men’s Clothes

Will Ross has some practical advice for men who don’t like shopping in his podcast available at http://travelingavatar.qdnow.com/
He recommends Blaze Fine Fashions (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Glory/71/118/24), Vindi Vindaloo- Fashion for Men (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Plush%20Kappa/48/46/22), and
Macho Murch (http://slurl.com/secondlife/South%20Sunset/36/214/23), the “Man Mall”. To his selections, I would add Men In Action (http://slurl.com/secondlife/MIA/159/83/30), which has a wide ranging selection of male clothing. Will actually recommends MIA in another post.

One comment he makes is so typical: “I really love my Blaze suit, in fact I wear it about ninety percent of the time I’m in game.” OK, I know that your suit doesn’t wear out. It doesn’t start to stink of sweat, cigarette smoke and alcohol, no matter how much partying you’ve been doing, Will, but honestly! would it hurt to change it once in a while? Your clothing should reflect your mood, your feelings and the social requirements of where you are. It makes a statement about you, and when you wear the same suit 90% of the time — I don’t care how wonderful the textures — all it says is “BORING”. I love my Blaze suits as well, but not 90% of the time.

Just my $0.02
